The standard reach truck unit is equipped with an out-rigging mechanism situated on the front of the truck. A set of telescoping tines that move down and up are mounted to the out-rigging. The blades also have a hydraulic setup which allows the driver to pick up the load and move it over the out-riggers. This design not just offers a lot more balance to the overall load, but makes it easier for the reach truck to maneuver between the storage shelves into narrow aisles.
Once the selected shelf has been identified, the hydraulic blades swing into action and lower the pallet into the shelving unit, helping to slide the load into place. Normally, a reach truck will easily fit into an aisle that is less than 10 feet wide without difficulty, as long as there are no other pallets protruding out from the shelving area.
